The NZ Walnut Industry Group operates a propagators scheme (which
evolved from a scheme initiated in 1985 by the original Walnut Action
Group of the NZ Tree Crops Association). The scheme serves three
purposes:
To recommend the most promising cultivars. To provide funds for research into existing and new cultivars. To pay royalties to the owners of the original parent trees.
NZWIG encourages you to purchase your trees from one of the
participating propagators. For their names and addresses, please
contact the administrator of the propagators' scheme, Donna Hiser 135
River Road, R.D. 1, Richmond, Nelson.
The propagators will provide you with a certificate confirming that
your trees are grafted selected New Zealand cultivars. You'll find the
certificate a useful way to confirm to processors of your nuts, or
future purchasers of your property, that your trees are what you say
they are.
